The Ricochet Member Feed: The Greatest Hits and More
We cover several topics: people of courage, an audiobook about coffee, a Russiagate poll, and memorable Rush Limbaugh quotes. You’ll also find some community news and the member comment of the week.
This past weekend, you probably couldn’t get away from the Super Bowl even if you tried. It was all over the news and a major part of TV programming Sunday night. But maybe that was a good thing for some of us. A welcome distraction from news stories that have been driving us crazy for weeks or months (or even years).
Now, though, the Super Bowl is in the rearview mirror, and we’re locked back in on hot topics of the day, the kind you can find discussed at Ricochet. And they all start on the Member Feed. In case you missed some of the posts there, we’ve gathered a few for you below. They cover several topics: people of courage, an audiobook about coffee, a Russiagate poll, and memorable Rush Limbaugh quotes. You’ll also find some community news and the member comment of the week.
Have family members, friends, or former Ricochet members who’d enjoy this kind of member-only content? Share this newsletter and tell them they can join today and get their first 14 days free. You’ll help grow our community and provide some great conversation starters for your next soiree or night out on the town.
Speaking of being a member, remember: We’ll have a price increase soon. If you renew your membership now, you’ll lock in our current pricing for one more year.
Top Talkers
Susan Quinn: Group Writing: Loving People of Courage
So often, I feel challenged about taking personal risks, and rediscover my own courage when I learn the stories of people who put their own reputations on the line, who don’t let personal attacks and criticism stop them, and who serve as models for all of us. I decided to write this post to highlight some of my favorites, providing links if you want to learn more about them.
Whose courage inspires you? One or more of those people might be on this list Susan Quinn thoughtfully compiled. Some are part of Ricochet, and some aren’t. Some are politicians. We enjoyed reading about all of them and seeing why they struck a chord with Susan. We also love that she invited you to share who’d be on your list. There are already a few suggestions, and we encourage you to add yours. Conversation starters like this one help make Ricochet a truly engaging community.
Douglas Pratt: Coffee and Pandemics
If, like me, you require a hot mug of the Elixir of Life to get going in the morning, you probably have a favorite brand or blend of coffee. Have you ever wondered where it comes from and why that particular coffee is available? Did you know that a pandemic darned near wiped out coffee production in the early 1800s, and shaped the way societies respond to pandemics, both of commodities and of human diseases?
Yes, we do require a hot (or iced) coffee to start the day. And another one — or two — to keep us going in the afternoon. What is life without coffee?! But we digress. You’ve likely noticed we have fascinating members here at Ricochet, and Douglas Pratt is a great example. He’s written nine books and narrated dozens upon dozens of audiobooks for Audible.com. His latest, “Coffee Is Not Forever,” written by Stuart McCook, sounds intriguing. Best of all, he’s offering free review copies for Ricochet members. Thanks, Douglas!
Hang On: Russiagate is Bigger Scandal than Watergate
Was Joe sitting down in his basement with a bank of computer screens spying on Trump? That would be even bigger news than Hillary’s spying. Has this got longer legs than thought before?
Polls can be interesting and entertaining, so we appreciate Hang On’s post about a recent Rasmussen poll regarding accusations against Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. We also appreciate Hang On’s quick commentary at the end and fellow member Dbroussa linking to the poll results in case you can’t access the link in the post. Members helping members, a frequent occurrence here at Ricochet, always puts a smile on our faces.
But Wait, There’s More
RushBabe49: Quotes of the Day: Mourning the Great Rush Limbaugh
Let me tell you who we conservatives are: we love people. When we look out over the United States of America, when we are anywhere, when we see a group of people, such as this or anywhere, we see Americans. We see human beings. We don’t see groups. We don’t see victims.
While we focus on Member Feed posts for this newsletter, and this post was promoted to the Main Feed, we had to share it. Rush Limbaugh was an enormously popular radio personality who’s missed by many, and RushBabe49 shared some great quotes from him on the one-year anniversary of his death. Check them out, and feel free to share your favorites in the comments.
